Arizona Family News recently reported some pointers to knowing about and tackling the situation of lice.

First, head lice and nits, louse eggs, can infest not only hair but eyebrows and eyelashes too. The most common methods of contracting lice are through sharing clothes, beding and comes or brushes with someone infected.

Arizona Family News says the symptoms of lice are: itchy scalp, red bumps, tiny white nits attached to individual strands of hair and crawling sensations on the head.

There are many kinds of treatments to curing head lice from over-the-counter lotions and shampoos to home remedies. Products like lindane shampoo and ivermectin should only be used after multiple failed attempts at getting rid of lice. Lindane contains toxins that could be harmful to the person infested. Ivermectin is a pill that is generally used after shampoo and lotions do not work.

Ivermectin also comes in a prescription lotion called Sklice. This is used only one time without leaving the hair messy. As a prescription, Sklice can cost up to $300 without insurance.
