Last summer Sarah Buttenwieser, a writer for New York Times, was stricken by lice in her household. It started right before her young son was going off to camp. They came to a brutal decision to buzz off his hair that reached down to his back and send him off to camp. Buttenwieser hated to make him do that but didn’t want her son to miss out on what he looked forward to every summer.

Buttenwieser said she had made an attempt to visit a lice removal treatment center but the center said they were limited on staff and could not tend to her son’s needs in time for camp.

A couple months after that both Buttenwieser and her daughter had lice. She made the executive decision again to chop off both her and her daughter’s hair.

Buttenwieser did not go to Lice Tamers where they do not turn any child down. At Lice Tamers, located in Huntington Station, NY, the staff provides friendly services and safe products that will ensure the disappearance of your child’s lice. The staff is dedicated to helping your child overcome the nuisance of lice.

Lice Tamers Answers one of the Most FAQ's!

LICE TAMERS

260 E. Jericho Tpke, Huntington Station, NY 11746

877-237-LICE

www.LiceTamers.com

One of the questions that we get asked frequently is “What do I need to do in order to get rid of lice in my home?”

Lucky for you, Lice Tamers has an answer for you! Lice are NOT living in your home! Nits (eggs) need the warmth of your scalp and a food supply (your blood) in order to hatch and survive. Lice want to be in your head, not your home!

If a louse falls off, it’s by accident and it will die shortly thereafter. We recommend washing all bedding, vacuum as you normally would and change your pillow cases daily as an added precaution! That’s it!

If you’re looking for further information about lice or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call Lice Tamers at (877)237-LICE or visit us on the web at www.LiceTamers.com!

Head Lice Prevention Tips for the Spring!

LICE TAMERS

260 E. Jericho Tpke, Huntington Station, NY 11746

877-237-LICE

www.LiceTamers.com

Contrary to what most people believe, head lice is a year-round problem. There are, however, certain times of the year when head lice tend to be more prevalent. Whenever children get together in large groups, the chances of head lice being spread among them tends to increase. The spring season is one of those times.

Head lice prevention starts with being aware of how it's spread. Head lice do not jump or fly. So, how do children contract head lice from one another?

The main avenue through which head lice are spread is direct contact, i.e. head-to-head contact, sharing brushes and sharing hats and/or head gear.

This spring, be sure that your child does not share helmets or other head gear with children on their sports team. If there is no option but to share, make sure that your child wears a protective barrier between their head and the head gear, such as a baseball cap.

Lice Tamers is offering FREE head checks to local teams this spring. For information to set up an appointment, call 631-479-2595 or  visit www.licetamers.com!

Don’t panic, we’re also available to help rid your family of head lice safely and effectively without the use of toxic that can harm your family.

Here are a couple of facts and answers about lice! If you have any questions about lice or suspect someone in your family may have head lice, call us immediately at 877-237-LICE.

What are the symptoms of head lice?

A: An itchy scalp. A tickling feeling of something moving on the scalp or through the hair. You may see red bite marks on the scalp or red rash on the back of the neck. Some individuals exhibit no symptoms at all.

What are nits and what do they look like?

A: Nits (louse eggs) are very small, about the size of a sesame seed. They are laid by the adult female and are attached at an angle to the base of the hair shaft, with a very strong glue. They are yellowish, tan or coffee covered ovals, usually found near the crown of the head, around the ears, and near the nape of the neck. Nits take about 7 to 10 days to hatch.

Can lice jump or fly?

A: Contrary to popular belief, lice cannot fly or jump. They do not have wings. Lice are crawling insects. They only way to get head lice is through close contact or sharing clothing or hats from an individual who has it.

What do I need to do in order to get rid of lice in my home?

A: Lice are NOT living in your home! Nits (eggs) need the warmth of your scalp and food supply (your blood) in order to hatch and survive. Lice want to be in your head.
